｢ジョブズはWindows対応に大反対だった｣iPodの父が開発経緯を語る

ジョブズらしい？

毎年進化し大きな利益を生み出すiPhoneですが、そのアイディアの元となったのは2001年に発売された音楽プレーヤーのiPodでした。そしてiPod開発で大きな役割を果たし、｢iPodの父｣と呼ばれることもあるTony Fadell（トニー・ファデル）がその開発経緯を明かしています。

｢（iTunesのWindowsへのリリースは）スティーブ・ジョブズの多大な反対を乗り越えてのものだった。また、FireWire愛好家から悔しがられたが、USB 2.0へのサポートを追加した｣

iPodは当初Macとのみ同期できる音楽プレーヤーとして販売されましたが、2002年にはWindowsとの互換モデルが登場。これにより、さらにそのシェアを広げることになりました。

このようにしてジョブズの反対を乗り越え、大きな市場とバリエーションを開拓したiPod。最近ではiPhoneの影に隠れてその影響力も小さくなってしまいましたが、末永く販売を続けてほしいものです。
